The regions with the most castles are Piedmont (648), Emilia-Romagna (610) and Lombardy (500).

By date of construction, the most common period is the Middle Ages (80% of dated places).

Of these, 79 list opening hours, 8 have free entry and 13 are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
