This atlas lists 4,300 fortresses and towers across 20 Italian regions, sorted by how complete their information is.

The regions with the most fortresses and towers are Tuscany (643), Lombardy (501) and Veneto (385).

By date of construction, the most common period is the Middle Ages (36% of dated places) and the Modern era (27% of dated places).

Of these, 33 list opening hours, 5 have free entry and 21 are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
