The town

Cabras sits about 7 km from Oristano on the West coast of Sardinia. The Sinis peninsula is an important international site for flora and fauna and home to many fascinating cultural treasures, the most stunning of which is Tharros. Beaches in this part of Sardinia are stunning and natural. Is Aruttas, Putzu Idu, Mari Erme and Torregrande are all worth mentioning.

One of the best local festivals (there are many) is the barefoot race held on the first weekend of September. Three thousand men from Cabras run barefoot dressed in white to the village of San Salvatore where they re-enact an ancient feud over a religious statue. The statue is carried back from San Salvatore. It is a tremendous spectacle to watch; physically exhausting and painful.

Church of Santa Maria Vergine Assunta (Chiesa di Santa Maria Vergine Assunta). A Renaissance building is situated on the shore of the Stagno di Cabras lagoon. A park and promenade extend to the south. Church of the Holy Spirit (Chiesa del Spirito Santo). Built in 1601. City hall (follow Via del Resorgimento from Chiesa del Spirito Santo). Civic Archaeological Museum (Museo Civico Archeologico "Giovanni Marongiu"). Aragonese Tower (Torre di su Pottu). It can be reached via a gravel road from the SP6. Church and Hypogee of San Salvatore (Chiesa and Ipogeo di San Salvatore). On most days, a member of the cooperative that maintains the chapel is present. In the area of the small country church southwest of the Stagno di Cabras, a Nuragic well sanctuary already existed, which continued to be used by the Phoenicians and Romans. In the "Hypogee of San Salvatore," "Hercules Soter" was venerated in Roman times, and "Christ the Savior" or San Salvatore in Christian times. A steep staircase in the central aisle of the nave of the pilgrimage chapel, built in the early 18th century, led down into the hypogeum.
